The 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, based in Ohafia, Abia State, has notified residents of an upcoming military shooting exercise as part of activities marking the 82 Division Corporals and Below Competition 2026. The announcement specifically targets people living in Ohafia and nearby communities, urging calm and cooperation during the exercise.
According to a statement issued by Captain Muyiwa Ayara on behalf of the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the day-and-night shooting competition will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The event is scheduled to run from 12:00 noon to 11:00 pm at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Shooting Range in Ohafia.
Furthermore, the Army emphasized that the exercise is a routine training program designed to improve soldiers’ marksmanship, operational efficiency, and overall combat readiness. As such, residents may hear gunshots throughout the day and night. However, authorities reassured the public that all activities will occur in a strictly controlled and secure environment.
To ensure safety, the Army strongly advised residents to stay away from the shooting range and avoid unnecessary movement around the designated training area. In addition, individuals must comply with all instructions issued by military personnel.
Ultimately, the Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property. It also called for public understanding and cooperation to ensure a smooth and incident-free exercise.
