Voting has officially closed for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards 12th edition. Organisers confirmed the closure on Sunday through a public announcement. They appreciated viewers for actively supporting their favourite nominees throughout the voting period. They described the participation as massive and thanked fans for their engagement. According to them, anticipation now builds toward the awards ceremony on May 9.
Furthermore, the organisers assured fans that the event will be broadcast live across Africa Magic channels. The red carpet will begin at 4:00 p.m. WAT. Meanwhile, the main ceremony will follow at 7:00 p.m. WAT. This year’s AMVCA edition features 32 competitive categories. Out of these, 18 are jury-decided awards. In addition, 11 categories are determined by audience votes.
Also, three special honours will be presented during the night. These include the Lifetime Achievement Award and Trailblazer recognition. Notably, the awards introduced two new categories this year. These are Best Indigenous Language Film for North Africa and Central Africa. Organisers explained that this expansion strengthens continental representation.
Veteran actress Joke Silva serves as Head Judge for this edition. She succeeds filmmaker Femi Odugbemi in the role. Meanwhile, several top Nigerian stars are nominated across categories. These include Lateef Adedimeji, Funke Akindele, Gabriel Afolayan, Sola Sobowale, and Bisola Aiyeola. As voting closes, focus now shifts to the awards night. Industry stakeholders await winners across film, television, and digital content categories.
