The national committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) assigned to conduct Ward and Local Government (LG) congresses in Benue State has dismissed reports of parallel congresses, insisting that the exercise was peaceful and properly conducted.
Chairman of the Ward/LG Congress Committee in the state, Mr. Usman Musa, told journalists in Makurdi that the congresses were transparent and hitch-free. He stated that his committee was the only one officially authorised by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to carry out the exercise.
According to him, materials were distributed to relevant officials, results were duly returned, and the committee collected them without incident. He maintained that there was no other legitimate committee conducting congresses in the state.
Musa explained that the congresses were elective in nature and in line with the party’s constitution, which provides for consensus where applicable. He noted that affirmation is used to validate consensus decisions.
The committee monitored the exercise in Makurdi, Tarka, and Gboko LGAs and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the process.
Benue APC Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Omale, commended the committee for its professionalism and dedication, describing the congresses as a significant milestone in the state’s political landscape.
