Tragedy struck Awka, Anambra State, after gunmen reportedly killed popular comedian and media personality Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, along with an unidentified middle-aged man.
The two victims were allegedly shot at separate locations in the state capital on Sunday, August 30, 2026, causing panic among residents.
Eyewitnesses said the comedian was attacked along S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, after three men reportedly followed him in a tinted vehicle, blocked his car and opened fire. The attackers allegedly later shot another man along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, before fleeing the area.
The motive for the killings remains unclear, although some residents linked the incident to possible cult-related activities.
Security operatives recovered the bodies and took them to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead. Police also recovered ₦7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, condemned the attacks and urged residents, motorists, business owners and community leaders with useful information to assist the investigation.
The police said information provided by members of the public would be treated confidentially as efforts continue to identify and arrest those responsible.
