Creating a Home for Women
Sinmiloluwa Aboluwade is the founder of Herbode, an organization dedicated to creating a safe and supportive space for women. Established on August 19, 2023, Herbode was built with a clear mission to provide an “abode” where women can find refuge, support, and opportunities for growth.
Since its launch, the organization has led several impactful initiatives. These include awareness walks against sexual assault, menstrual pad distribution in underserved communities, and sexual health education programs.
Beyond advocacy, Herbode actively supports young girls through education. The organization conducts school outreaches, distributes learning materials, and currently sponsors five girls through their education as of 2024.
The Inspiration Behind Herbode
Aboluwade’s vision for Herbode comes from personal experiences and early observations. Growing up around women who faced abuse without having a safe place to turn left a lasting impression on her.
That reality inspired the idea of creating a refuge for women, a place where they can feel protected and supported.
Her own struggles with education also played a major role. Those challenges led to the creation of the Educate A Girl Child project, which focuses on helping girls access better learning opportunities.

While many organizations work to support women, Herbode focuses strongly on reintegration. The goal is not just to provide temporary help, but to ensure women can return to society with confidence and dignity.
This approach helps beneficiaries rebuild their lives and become self-reliant.
Aboluwade acknowledges that many organizations are doing meaningful work. However, Herbode’s focus on restoring confidence and identity gives it a unique edge.
How Operations Are Managed
Herbode runs on the strength of its people. The organization has a structured team of over 70 volunteers who work together to achieve its goals.
Communication plays a key role in keeping operations smooth. The team relies on tools like Slack and email to stay connected, coordinate activities, and ensure efficiency.
Challenges in Reaching Girls
Like many non-profits, Herbode faces financial limitations. There are many girls in need of support, but available resources can only go so far.
These constraints make it difficult to reach every girl who needs help. Despite this, the organization continues to do as much as possible within its capacity.
Community Support and Reception
Herbode has received positive feedback from the communities it serves. Many communities show strong support and remain open to the organization’s initiatives.
This level of acceptance makes it easier to carry out programs and connect with those who need help.
Building Sustainable Impact
To ensure long-term impact, Herbode promotes what it calls an “impact chain.” Each beneficiary is encouraged to support at least one other girl or woman in need.
This approach creates a ripple effect, allowing the organization’s impact to extend beyond its direct reach.

Through her work, Aboluwade has come to realize that many challenges affecting girls remain deeply rooted. She believes current efforts only scratch the surface.
Without broader systemic change, progress can feel repetitive. This insight has strengthened her commitment to pushing for deeper and more lasting solutions.
Addressing Misconceptions and Cultural Barriers
One common misconception Herbode faces is the belief that non-governmental organizations operate for hidden or harmful purposes.
In addition, cultural beliefs about a woman’s place in society can limit progress. Some communities still view women as less important than men.
These barriers make the work more challenging. However, Herbode continues to address them through awareness, education, and consistent engagement.
A Call for Education
If given the power to solve one major issue, Aboluwade would choose education.
She believes education is the foundation for empowerment and independence. Providing girls with access to education would open doors, create opportunities, and change lives on a large scale.
Through Herbode, she continues to work toward that vision, one girl, one woman, and one community at a time.
