Gunmen have killed 33 residents in Kebbi State after attacking Bui District. The attack occurred in Arewa Local Government Area on Wednesday. The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident on Friday. Police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman released the statement in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, suspected bandits stormed the district to rustle cattle. Authorities believe the attackers crossed from Gudu Local Government Area, Sokoto State. During the invasion, several villages quickly mobilised to defend their communities. Affected communities included Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, and Makangara.
Others were Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago. However, the confrontation turned deadly for local residents. As a result, 33 people lost their lives during the clash. Following the attack, security agencies strengthened their operational presence. The police collaborated with the military and other security forces.
They deployed additional personnel and operational assets to affected areas. Furthermore, security teams launched sustained patrols to restore calm. Officials aim to prevent further attacks across vulnerable communities. Meanwhile, the command expressed condolences to grieving families.
Authorities also sympathised with the entire Arewa community. Usman stressed the dangers of confronting heavily armed criminals. He urged residents to report suspicious movements promptly. He also warned citizens against directly engaging armed attackers. Currently, targeted operations are tracking the suspected perpetrators.
Security agencies are also improving early warning systems statewide. The incident highlights worsening insecurity across Kebbi and neighbouring states. Armed groups continue deadly raids, kidnappings, and extortion in rural communities.
