Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Sununu, has praised former Chief Medical Director of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Prof. Bissallah Ekele, for his mentorship and contributions to Nigeria’s health sector.
Speaking at a send-off dinner in Abuja, Sununu described Ekele as humble and dedicated, expressing confidence that his current role at the National Universities Commission would support reforms in medical education.
Acting CMD Prof. Bob Ukonu highlighted key achievements during Ekele’s eight-year tenure, including infrastructure upgrades, departmental accreditations and improved patient care.
In his remarks, Ekele called for increased funding, better insurance coverage and improved incentives to retain health workers in Nigeria.
