The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated multi-million naira worth of equipment to the Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences, Parklane and Awgu campuses, to enhance healthcare training and strengthen health service delivery in the state.
The donation, made under the Equipment Support for Health Training Institutions (ESHTI) project and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom, includes two 15-seater Toyota Hiace buses, two Mikano generators, 145 desktop computers, eight 3D smart boards, 13 photocopiers, and various laboratory and hostel equipment.
Speaking during the handover at the Enugu State Government House, WHO Country Representative, Dr. Pavel Ursu, said the gesture reflects the shared commitment between WHO, FCDO, and the Enugu State Government to build a stronger health workforce. He praised Governor Peter Mbah for his investments in digital healthcare transformation, including the digitisation of over 360 health facilities and the recruitment of more than 2,000 health workers across all cadres.
Governor Mbah commended WHO and FCDO for the support, noting that the donation aligns with the state’s goal of producing over 1,000 nurses annually and establishing new colleges in Nsukka and Orji River.
Enugu’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. George Ugwu, and the Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Yomi Jaye, said the equipment would enhance research, digital learning, and prepare the colleges for new accreditations.
This collaboration, they noted, represents a major milestone in improving healthcare education and workforce development in Enugu State.
