The United States Supreme Court has upheld state laws restricting transgender athletes from competing in girls’ and women’s school sports.
In a 6-3 ruling, the court held that states may require student-athletes to compete based on their sex assigned at birth, allowing existing laws in more than 27 states to remain in force.
Supporters say the decision protects fairness in women’s sports, while critics argue it discriminates against transgender students. Legal experts believe the ruling will shape future debates over equal rights, competitive fairness and state authority in school athletics.
