Ibom Airlines Limited has imposed a lifetime ban on an unruly passenger, identified as Comfort Emmanson, after she allegedly assaulted crew members during a flight from Uyo to Lagos.
The incident, captured in a viral video, occurred on Sunday before the aircraft’s take-off. According to the airline, Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone despite repeated safety instructions. Only after the Pilot-in-Command addressed the issue over the public address system did a fellow passenger beside her take the phone and switch it off. This action reportedly triggered a heated verbal outburst from Emmanson.
Upon landing in Lagos, the situation escalated. Emmanson allegedly waited until other passengers disembarked before confronting the Purser who had earlier instructed her. She reportedly stepped on the crew member, tore off her wig, removed her glasses, and threw them to the floor. Witnesses claim she then struck the Purser multiple times and assaulted another crew member who intervened.
The airline further stated that Emmanson attempted to seize a fire extinguisher, an act they considered a threat to the aircraft’s safety. The Pilot-in-Command immediately alerted airport security. Despite their arrival, Emmanson allegedly attacked security personnel and the ground supervisor before being forcibly removed and handed over to the Nigerian Police.
Ibom Air confirmed that it has reported the matter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The airline emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on disruptive behavior from unruly passenger and announced that Emmanson will never be allowed to fly on its aircraft again.
Commending its crew and security team, Ibom Air praised their professionalism and composure under extreme circumstances. The airline also acknowledged the swift intervention of airport authorities and law enforcement.
This decisive action underscores the growing emphasis on maintaining safety and discipline in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
