United Bank for Africa has announced strategic executive board appointments effective January 1, 2026.
The decision follows the completion of tenure by four long-serving Executive Directors.
Retiring executives include Deputy Managing Director Muyiwa Akinyemi alongside three Executive Directors.
Those exiting the board are Abiola Bawuah, Alex Alozie, and Sola Yomi-Ajayi.
Their retirement marks the end of a significant leadership era within the bank.
To ensure continuity, the UBA Board approved three new Executive Director appointments.
The appointments are subject to regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Emmanuel Lamptey was named Executive Director in charge of Digital Banking operations.
He brings over twenty-five years of multinational experience across diverse financial services.
His expertise spans retail banking, asset management, insurance, pensions, and microfinance sectors.
Lamptey has worked across more than thirty African countries during his professional career.
Tosin Adewuyi was appointed Executive Director responsible for Corporate Banking activities.
He possesses over twenty-five years of banking experience across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Adewuyi has also held senior management roles approved by regulators in London and Lagos.
Chidi Okpala will serve as Executive Director overseeing UBA Nigeria’s operations.
Previously, he led payments, integration, and strategy at Heirs Holdings.
He also managed strategic investments across technology and healthcare portfolios.
Group Chairman Tony Elumelu praised the incoming executives for their leadership capacity.
He expressed confidence in their ability to drive UBA’s next growth phase.
Elumelu also appreciated the retiring directors for their enduring contributions.
UBA further announced new Group Executive Management appointments to strengthen operations.
