UMZA Air has launched commercial flights on the Abuja–Ilorin route with a bold promise of permanently cheaper airfares. The airline introduced ticket prices between N145,000 and N180,000, a rate it describes as almost 60 percent lower than current market fares. This new pricing aims to ease the financial pressure on domestic travellers who face rising airfare costs nationwide.
According to Managing Director Anachuna Henry, the reduced fares are not temporary offers. He stressed that the low pricing forms the airline’s long-term structure and reflects its commitment to affordable travel. As ticket sales opened on Monday, bookings increased quickly, showing strong demand for cheaper flight options. Henry noted that passengers responded positively because they recognized the significant price difference.
The airline completed its maiden Abuja-to-Ilorin flight on Sunday at 5 pm. Ilorin now joins UMZA’s growing network, which already includes Kano, Yola, Sokoto, Kebbi, Maiduguri, and Lagos. The airline deployed a G-400 XR turboprop aircraft, known for strong reliability and safety standards.
UMZA confirmed that its Ilorin station is fully prepared with trained staff and the required operating infrastructure. The airline also met all regulatory conditions set by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
Industry analysts believe UMZA’s entry will reshape the Ilorin market. Travellers from Kwara, Kogi, Ekiti, and parts of Niger State often depend on one dominant operator. With UMZA offering consistently lower fares, experts expect competition to grow and other airlines to reconsider their pricing strategies.
This development promises relief for frequent flyers seeking stable, affordable, and secure travel between Abuja and Ilorin.
