Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has unveiled the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation, a new initiative aimed at empowering emerging African creatives through access, mentorship and world-class music education.
Announcing the initiative on social media, Savage said the foundation would focus on building sustainable structures for Africa’s music industry, adding that Berklee College of Music would be coming to Lagos for the first time.
In an interview with CNN, Savage said while Afrobeats has gained global attention, long-term sustainability requires investment in education and industry structure. She noted that the foundation would support not only performers but also producers, composers, sound engineers and music business professionals.
The programme will combine music theory with practical training in production, songwriting, harmony, sound engineering, publishing, copyright and entertainment law, and will conclude with live ensemble performances. Outstanding participants may be considered for future scholarships or online programmes at Berklee.
Savage said the initiative was inspired by her own experience as a former Berklee scholarship recipient and the high cost of international music education, which remains out of reach for many young Africans.
“With this foundation, I want to give the next generation access to opportunities that can change their lives,” she said.
