President Bola Tinubu has formally written to the House of Representatives requesting a presentation slot. The letter, read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, asks for Friday, December 19, 2025, at noon.
He seeks to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill before a joint session of the National Assembly. Tinubu emphasized the importance of the presentation for Nigeria’s fiscal planning and economic growth. The 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) details the proposed budget.
The total budget size is projected at N54.46 trillion, reflecting Nigeria’s ambitious fiscal strategy. Out of this, N34.33 trillion is expected from retained revenue sources, supporting core government operations. New borrowings, both domestic and foreign, are estimated at N17.88 trillion to fund strategic projects.
Debt service obligations are projected at N15.52 trillion, ensuring Nigeria meets its financial commitments. Pensions, gratuities, and retirees’ benefits are projected at N1.376 trillion to support citizens. The fiscal deficit for 2026 is estimated at N20.13 trillion, highlighting funding gaps.
Capital expenditure is planned at N20.13 trillion, excluding statutory transfers of N3.15 trillion. The Sinking Fund is projected at N388.54 billion, boosting Nigeria’s debt management framework.
Total recurrent non-debt expenditure is N15.265 trillion, with special interventions for programs at N214 billion. This budget reflects Tinubu’s focus on infrastructure, economic growth, and social welfare initiatives.Its presentation before the National Assembly marks a critical step in Nigeria’s budget approval process.
