The Super Eagles have officially opened camp in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup CAF playoff against Gabon.
As of Tuesday, 18 players were already in camp, including Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, and William Troost-Ekong. The team confirmed their arrival via its official X handle, listing all players present under the caption “Eagles in Camp.”
Team officials and the first batch of players checked into the Rive Hotel in Rabat on Sunday, marking the start of the final phase of preparations. Media officer Promise Efoghe noted that Bassey, Iwobi, Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun were among the early arrivals.
Head coach Eric Chelle named a 24-man squad for the playoffs, featuring a mix of experienced stars and in-form performers. Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke both earned recalls following strong club outings.
Nigeria will face Gabon in the semi-final clash on Thursday, while Cameroon meets DR Congo in the other fixture at El-Barid Stadium, Rabat. Winners from both games will battle on November 16 for a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs leading to the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The Super Eagles, last seen at the World Cup in 2018, are determined to reclaim their place on football’s biggest stage after missing out on Qatar 2022.
