Students have begun a 72-hour lecture boycott from April 14 to April 16, 2026, in protest against worsening campus transportation challenges.
The students’ union said the new transit system has caused overcrowding, long waiting times, and inadequate route coverage. Many students, especially those living off campus, also face difficulty commuting due to a shortage of vehicles and increased fares from ₦100 to about ₦150.
The union noted the system cannot effectively serve over 35,000 students, staff, and other campus users, calling for urgent intervention.
Among their demands are the deployment of more vehicles, a temporary return to the previous transport system, and better consultation with student leaders. They also proposed a more inclusive transport model.
The situation follows the donation of 80 compressed natural gas buses by Oluremi Tinubu. However, restricting movement to only these vehicles has led to operational challenges.
Students warned that failure to address their concerns after the boycott could lead to further protests.
