Nigerian singer Simi (Simisola Kosoko) has addressed online bullying following her strong stance against rape and sexual assault.
The backlash began after she condemned rape culture during a viral sexual assault case, saying rapists deserved severe punishment. Critics later resurfaced decade-old tweets from 2012–2013, attempting to question her credibility.
In a statement released on February 22, Simi clarified that the old posts reflected her daily experiences working at her mother’s daycare at age 23 and were not perverse in intent.
“I have always spoken against rape and sexual assault… I said stop raping women. I stand by it,” she stated, rejecting what she described as deliberate misrepresentation of her past.
She maintained that her advocacy against violence toward women remains unwavering despite the online attacks.
