Samson Siasia, former Super Eagles coach has placed the spotlight on Ademola Lookman and Tolu Arokodare, insisting they can drive Nigeria’s World Cup charge when the Super Eagles battle South Africa today in Bloemfontein.
Siasia urged head coach Eric Chelle to trust Lookman’s set-piece precision and Arokodare’s aerial power. He stressed that both players possess the qualities to tilt the contest in Nigeria’s favor during this must-win qualifier.
The Super Eagles step into the clash with momentum after edging Rwanda 1-0 in Uyo. In that game, Arokodare came off the bench and struck late, sealing three crucial points. With the win, Nigeria closed in on the group leaders. A victory tonight would slash the gap to only three points, keeping their World Cup dreams alive.
South Africa, however, enter the encounter in their strongest form in over two decades. Even so, Siasia reminded fans that Nigeria traditionally dominates this rivalry. He insisted that history still leans toward the Super Eagles, despite Bafana Bafana’s recent resurgence.
Speaking on SuperSport, Siasia laid out his tactical advice. “Nigeria must keep the ball, draw fouls, and allow Lookman to unlock the defense. Arokodare can hold play up and create scoring chances. If we stick to that plan, we can win,” he explained.
The clash carries massive stakes. Both Nigeria and South Africa are traditional African powerhouses, and their meetings always spark tension and passion. This match, though, could decide who stays on course for a World Cup ticket.
If Lookman delivers his trademark attacking threat and Arokodare continues his rise as a reliable striker, Nigeria will remain firmly in the qualification race and strengthen their hopes of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
