Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled Al Saud, famously known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at age 36 after spending two decades in a coma. He died on Friday, July 19, at the King Abdulaziz Medical Centre in Riyadh.
In 2005, while studying as a military cadet in London, Al-Waleed suffered a severe brain injury in a car accident that left him in a coma. He remained on life support for 20 years, with his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, standing by his side, refusing to end life support despite medical advice.
Prince Khaled’s enduring hope and public updates over the years touched many across the Arab world. Following the prince’s death, the hashtag SleepingPrince trended widely, with thousands sharing tributes and condolences online.
