Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed an immediate expansion of waste evacuation operations following complaints about growing refuse heaps in parts of the state.
The government acknowledged residents’ concerns and said agencies responsible for environmental management have been instructed to work round the clock to clear waste backlogs. Officials noted that Lagos generates approximately 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, making waste management a major challenge.
While describing the situation as temporary, the state assured residents that noticeable improvements are already being recorded and urged the public to support sanitation efforts by disposing of waste responsibly and keeping drainage channels free of obstruction.
