The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria RTEAN has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. The union also urged the Federal Government to establish a specialised Bank of Transportation. RTEAN President, Musa Maitakobi, confirmed the decision in an official communiqué. He explained that the endorsement followed consultations across national, zonal, and state structures. According to him, ongoing reforms have repositioned transportation as a strategic pillar of development.
Maitakobi noted that infrastructure and economic policies now prioritise transport growth. However, operators still struggle to access affordable financing for expansion. Therefore, the union demanded a dedicated financial institution for transport businesses. He argued that existing banks rarely understand sector-specific challenges. Since transport spans land, sea, and air operations, operators need tailored credit facilities. Such funding would support fleet renewal, safety improvements, and infrastructure upgrades.
Furthermore, the association praised the administration’s structured reform agenda. It stated that policy coordination and accountability align with its organised framework nationwide. RTEAN emphasised that efficient transport drives productivity, trade, and citizen welfare. It added that when transport functions effectively, the broader economy accelerates.
The union also highlighted the rising adoption of Compressed Natural Gas nationwide. It commended the government for promoting cleaner and cost-effective fuel alternatives. Additionally, it observed growing queues at CNG stations across major cities. RTEAN believes leadership continuity will consolidate reforms and protect investments. As 2027 approaches, transportation policy remains central to national development debates.
