Renaissance Berkane coach Mouine Chaabani has expressed confidence ahead of his team’s trip to Nigeria for their second group match of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League. His side will face Rivers United on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Berkane began their campaign with a strong 3-0 win over Power Dynamos. That result boosted their confidence as they prepare to meet a Rivers United team that suffered a 3-0 loss to Pyramids in Egypt. Chaabani praised his players’ first outing and said the team must build on that momentum.
He stressed the importance of the away fixture and reaffirmed his ambitions for the competition. According to him, the club will travel with a clear objective. He believes the squad can secure a positive result in Nigeria.
“We will face Rivers United with the aim of returning home with a positive result. We hope it will be an away victory,” he said. He added that the match would be challenging, but the team remains determined to push far in the tournament.
Chaabani also offered updates on his squad’s fitness. He explained that Murabit felt discomfort in his knee during the first match. Mehri also picked up a minor issue. However, the coach noted that both concerns were not serious and would be assessed further by the medical team.
Renaissance Berkane departed Morocco on Wednesday morning, travelling through Lagos before heading to Uyo for the match. Senegalese referee Issa Sy will handle the fixture.
Rivers United now seek redemption on home soil. A win could revive their hopes of progressing from the group, while Berkane aim to strengthen their early advantage.
