Popular gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi, has died.
Her death was announced on Tuesday by fellow gospel artist Ayo Melody on Instagram on behalf of the family. The statement said she passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital.
The cause of death was not disclosed. However, months earlier, Akinnaanu had sought prayers over a leg complication. In October 2025, a video showed her receiving prayers during a service at G.F. David Ministries, Ibadan, after a cleric spoke about persistent bleeding in her leg. There is no confirmation the condition was linked to her death.
Akinnaanu left a banking career to pursue gospel music and rose to fame with her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” which became popular in churches across Nigeria. She also released other songs, including “O Ti Sure.”
She is remembered for her powerful voice and impact on gospel music.
