The Ondo State Police Command has arrested at least 46 youths in connection with a violent cult clash that erupted in Ondo town on Tuesday evening. The deadly confrontation between rival cult groups resulted in the deaths of four individuals, according to police reports.
The fatal shooting occurred in multiple locations, including Ife Garage, Sabo, and Christ Land within the Oka area of Ondo town. Eyewitnesses revealed that the victims were targeted by masked assailants suspected to be members of a rival cult group.
Among the casualties were three members of the Ẹiyẹ confraternity who were shot dead near Ife Garage, while another individual lost their life in the Sabo district.
In a press statement on Thursday, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrests made during police raids across several areas of the town. “Desperate times require desperate actions. Those apprehended are believed to be linked to the violent cult clash. Forty-six suspects were detained, with firearms and ammunition seized from their hideouts,” Ayanlade said.
The police spokesperson further emphasized ongoing efforts to apprehend additional suspects involved in the crisis, urging the community to cooperate fully. “We call on the residents of Ondo town and the wider Ondo State to remain law-abiding and assist the police in their investigations. The command is committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice,” he added.
