Plateau State Government has announced plans to host the maiden edition of the Plateau State Science, Technology and Innovation Festival, scheduled to hold from June 1 to 3, 2026, in Jos. The event, known as PLASSTIFEST, will take place at the Crispan Suites and Event Centre and is expected to attract innovators, investors, researchers, and tech enthusiasts from across Nigeria.
Speaking during a press briefing in Jos, the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, explained that the festival is designed to spotlight the state’s innovation capacity. In addition, it will serve as a platform to connect startups with investors while positioning Plateau as a leading hub for science and technology development.
Furthermore, the event is themed “Reimagining Plateau: Driving Innovation and Technology for a Smarter and Sustainable Future,” aligning with Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s vision of transforming the state through innovation-driven development. According to Shurkuk, despite challenges in education, agriculture, mining, youth unemployment, and infrastructure, Plateau State possesses strong potential driven by its youthful population and emerging innovation ecosystem.
Importantly, PLASSTIFEST is not just a one-time event. It is structured as a long-term initiative that will extend beyond the festival through mentorship programmes, community outreach, and continuous engagement with innovators.
The three-day festival will feature exhibitions, panel discussions, innovation awards, and networking sessions aimed at fostering collaboration between entrepreneurs and investors. Moreover, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Udeh, is expected to deliver the keynote address, alongside other high-profile stakeholders.
Ultimately, the initiative seeks to reposition Plateau State as a centre for creativity, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement. Stakeholders, including students, startups, and business owners, are encouraged to participate actively.
