The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North. Authorities announced the restriction after a deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba community. The Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, confirmed the decision on Sunday. She stated the curfew would begin at midnight on March 29, 2026.
Officials said the measure would last until April 1, 2026. According to the government, a tragic security incident triggered the emergency response. The attack caused multiple deaths and left several residents seriously injured. Governor Caleb Mutfwang strongly condemned the incident and described it as barbaric.
He assured residents that security agencies are pursuing the perpetrators actively. Eyewitnesses reported that gunmen arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on civilians. They targeted passersby and roadside traders during the sudden evening attack. A resident confirmed that at least six people died from the incident.
Several injured victims currently receive treatment at Luna Hospital near New Road. Another witness described the attack as shocking and completely unexpected. She explained that attackers fled the scene before security operatives arrived. Meanwhile, the violence sparked panic and tension across the affected community.
Some youths protested by blocking roads before security forces restored order. Residents have urged authorities to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles. They believe stricter measures could help prevent similar attacks in the future. Notably, Plateau State has recorded rising violent incidents in recent months.
Previous attacks in Kanam, Bokkos, and Barkin Ladi caused massive casualties. These recurring attacks highlight urgent concerns about security across affected communities.
