Paris Jackson has distanced herself from the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, criticising it as “sugar-coated” and denying claims that she was involved in the production.
The 27-year-old singer and actor made the comments on Instagram after actor Colman Domingo, who plays Jackson family patriarch Joe Jackson, told People magazine that Paris and her brother Prince were supportive of the film.
“Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had zero per cent involvement in,” Paris wrote. She explained that she had only read an early draft of the script, gave notes she felt were ignored, and “moved on” from the project.
Expanding in follow-up posts, Paris said parts of the film cater to a segment of her father’s fanbase that “still lives in the fantasy,” while criticising Hollywood biopics more broadly for promoting “inaccuracy” and “full-blown lies.” She added: “Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
The film, produced with the Jackson estate, stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, in his feature debut as the King of Pop. It also features Miles Teller, Nia Long, and Kat Graham, and is scheduled for release on April 24, 2026.
