Oyo is ready for the coronation of its 46th Alaafin, Oba Akeem Owoade, on April 5, 2025. The state government has reinforced security, deploying operatives at key locations.
Oba Owoade, who received his staff of office on January 13, succeeds the late Oba Adeyemi. After completing the 21-day Oro Ipebi rites on March 29, he is set for installation.
The coronation at Oliveth Baptist High School will host Governor Seyi Makinde and other dignitaries. Additional events will be held at Ladigbolu Grammar School, Durbar Stadium, and Alaafin’s Palace.
Security has been tightened with police stationed at key points, and extra personnel deployed. Expected guests include former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, ambassadors, and traditional rulers.
Local hotels are fully booked, and the Akesan market will temporarily close for community participation. Oyo eagerly awaits this historic event as Oba Owoade ascends the throne.
