A senior Nigerian Football Federation official has debunked rumours surrounding Victor Osimhen’s alleged exit from camp. The official confirmed Osimhen remains fully committed to the Super Eagles’ 2025 AFCON campaign in Morocco.
The clarification followed widespread speculation after an on-field confrontation involving Ademola Lookman. The incident occurred during Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16. FIFA and CAF-accredited journalist Adepoju Samuel revealed details after speaking directly with a team official.
According to him, the situation was addressed swiftly and calmly within the camp. The official stressed that no discussion about Osimhen leaving ever took place. He added that the matter was resolved internally, describing the team as one family.
During the match, cameras captured Osimhen angrily reacting after Lookman missed a scoring opportunity. The Galatasaray striker felt frustrated, despite Lookman creating earlier chances for him. One of those chances resulted in a direct assist, while another involved Akor Adams.
Osimhen was later substituted and received boos from sections of the crowd. Following the game, social media reactions intensified, with fans questioning Osimhen’s conduct. However, Lookman responded by sharing post-match photos alongside Osimhen and Bruno Onyemaechi. He captioned the Instagram post, “Together Always,” signalling unity within the squad.
Furthermore, head coach Eric Chelle dismissed claims of lingering tension between both players. Captain Wilfred Ndidi also urged Nigerians to support the team ahead of the quarterfinals. The Super Eagles now focus fully on their next clash against Algeria or DR Congo.
