The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged baby factory at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects.
The operation was carried out on August 24 following intelligence gathered by operatives of the Mowe Division concerning alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, identified the arrested suspects as Florence Ogbona, Magdalene Julius, Chidike Egwuonwu, Onyechu Chidike, Stephen Ogbona and an attending nurse, Oseni Idaya.
Two pregnant women, aged 23 and 20, were rescued during the operation. Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.
Further investigations led police officers to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another woman had delivered a baby boy on August 20. The baby’s whereabouts could not be established while the mother remained under medical care, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse.
The police have transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and efforts to locate the missing newborn.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child exploitation and related crimes.
The police also appealed to residents to report suspicious activities that could assist authorities in preventing child trafficking and illegal adoption networks.
