The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially released the full fixtures for the 2025/26 season. Confirming that the campaign will end on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The announcement came just over a week before the season opener and two weeks after the league body unveiled the initial match schedule.
Defending champions Remo Stars will open their title defense with a high-profile clash against 2022 champions Rivers United on August 22 in Ikenne. The fixture promises a thrilling start to what is expected to be one of the most competitive seasons yet. Remo Stars head into the campaign fresh from winning their first-ever NPFL crown in 2024/25, finishing with an impressive 71 points.
Following the opening weekend, the league will roll through 18 intense weeks of action. Then head into the mid-season break from December 30, 2025, to January 6, 2026. The mid-season transfer window will run from January 1 to 30. Allowing all 20 clubs to strengthen their squads for the title race or relegation battle.
The season finale on May 24 will feature several exciting fixtures. Remo Stars will travel to face Bendel Insurance, while Rangers International will visit Ikorodu City in Lagos. Plateau United will host Kano Pillars in Jos, and Rivers United will welcome Katsina United to Port Harcourt.
In addition to releasing the schedule. The NPFL has revealed plans to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the near future. Selected referees have already begun VAR training, and clubs have been instructed to upgrade their stadium facilities to meet required standards.
