The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has dismissed claims of a new vehicle tax. It described the viral infographic as false and misleading. The agency clarified this in an official statement issued in Lagos. According to the statement, the misleading graphic suggests a new tax on private, commercial, and corporate vehicles. It also claims payment begins from July 1. However, the NRS confirmed that no such tax exists.
Furthermore, the infographic directs users to an incorrect website link. It falsely references a portal that does not belong to the service. The NRS clarified that its official website remains www.nrs.gov.ng. In addition, the agency noted that the material has no identifiable source or author. It stressed that the Federal Government has not introduced any new vehicle-related tax.
Meanwhile, Mr Dare Adekambi, spokesperson for the NRS, urged Nigerians to ignore the publication. He advised citizens to depend only on verified government communication channels. These include official websites and social media handles. Similarly, he warned against spreading unverified information online. He explained that such misinformation is designed to mislead the public.
Therefore, citizens must verify before sharing tax-related updates. Moreover, the NRS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accurate communication. It encouraged Nigerians to follow only its official platforms for reliable updates. In conclusion, the service confirmed that the viral claim is completely false.
