The Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMet has forecast dust haze and cloudy conditions nationwide. The weather outlook covers Monday through Wednesday across Nigeria.
According to NiMet, northern states will experience slight dust haze on Monday. However, Borno and Yobe may record moderate dust haze. Horizontal visibility could range between two and five kilometres.
Similarly, the North Central region will witness slight dust haze. Meanwhile, southern states will experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine. There are slim chances of morning thunderstorms in Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
Later on Monday, thunderstorms with light rainfall may occur in several southern states. These states include Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.
On Tuesday, NiMet expects moderate dust haze across the northern region. Visibility may remain between two and five kilometres. The North Central zone will also experience slight dust haze.
In the South, cloudy conditions will persist with sunny intervals. Morning thunderstorms may affect parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Later, light rains could spread to Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, and Delta.
By Wednesday, thick dust haze is anticipated across the North and North Central regions. Southern states will continue to see cloudy skies with possible morning storms. Afternoon thunderstorms with light rainfall may affect Lagos and other coastal states.
NiMet urged residents to take necessary precautions during the forecast period. Individuals with asthma or respiratory conditions should remain especially cautious.
The agency also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall. Additionally, airline operators should obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective planning.
