The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation has concluded plans to train officials ahead of the inaugural Michael Opeyemi Bamidele National Taekwondo Championship in Lagos.
The officials’ training will hold on September 16, two days before the championship begins at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.
According to NTF President Tayo Popoola, the training is aimed at ensuring that the competition is organised in line with international standards and that officials are adequately prepared for the event.
The two-day championship is scheduled to begin on September 18 and is expected to attract athletes from across the country.
The tournament is sponsored by former Lagos State Commissioner for Sports and current Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who has supported sporting events as part of his efforts to promote youth development and national unity.
All 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate, alongside clubs from different parts of the country. Paramilitary organisations have also indicated interest in competing.
Popoola said registration remained open for states and clubs that were yet to complete their entries, expressing optimism that the inaugural edition would be successful.
The federation hopes the championship will provide athletes with valuable competitive experience and contribute to Nigeria’s preparations for future international taekwondo engagements.
