President Bola Tinubu on Thursday hosted the Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew, at Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. The meeting took place around 6:00 pm and was confirmed by the State House media office. Additionally, the visit highlighted ongoing diplomatic engagement between both nations.
This latest interaction comes nearly one year after their previous meeting in March 2025. During that earlier discussion, both leaders explored stronger cooperation in key sectors. These sectors included agriculture, food security, energy, logistics, and international trade.
Following the March 2025 talks, President Tinubu expanded Nigeria’s outreach to the Caribbean. He later visited St. Lucia in June 2025, where he engaged with CARICOM leaders. Notably, this marked a historic step in Nigeria–Caribbean relations.
Although Thursday’s discussion details were not publicly disclosed, the visit signals continued diplomatic interest. Furthermore, both countries have maintained consistent communication through bilateral and multilateral platforms.
During the earlier meeting, Dr. Drew expressed a strong desire to deepen Caribbean ties with Africa. He described Africa as the “motherland,” reinforcing cultural and historical connections. In addition, he emphasized food sovereignty as a key priority for his government.
He also revealed that Saint Kitts and Nevis had begun talks with Nigerian companies. These discussions aim to boost collaboration across trade and development sectors.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu welcomed the partnership opportunity and described it as strategic. He emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to expanding global alliances and strengthening cooperation.
Both countries maintain relations through the Commonwealth and other international organizations. However, neither currently has a resident embassy in the other’s capital.
Despite this, diplomatic relations continue through missions in New York and London. Meanwhile, trade between both nations remains modest, valued at under $500,000 annually.
