The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers NIEEE has doubled its revenue within 32 months. Immediate past President, Felix Olu, announced this milestone during a Lagos ceremony, handing over leadership to the 22nd President, Felix Adegboye.
Olu revealed that the institute’s financial base grew from ₦50m to ₦100m, reflecting strategic reforms and stronger member engagement. Although he assumed office unexpectedly, he described the experience as a rare privilege. During his tenure, the institute welcomed over 700 new members, including students, professionals, and corporate organisations. Additionally, 140 members attained the distinguished fellowship status, strengthening the institute’s financial capacity.
To improve accessibility, the leadership introduced a digital registration portal. This platform simplified applications and eliminated manual paperwork, allowing prospective members to register seamlessly online. The initiative enhanced efficiency and expanded membership nationwide.
In his inaugural address, Adegboye urged engineers to lead national transformation, highlighting that Nigeria’s challenges demand innovative digital solutions. He emphasised that energy shortages, digital gaps, and infrastructural deficits require urgent technical intervention.
He further stressed that engineers now serve as nation builders, with reliable power systems and intelligent technologies critical for economic growth. Adegboye pledged to empower chapters and encourage grassroots development to strengthen the institute from the ground up.
With nearly 10,000 professionals across diverse specialties, NIEEE occupies a strategic position. The institute covers power, ICT, automation, avionics, and emerging technologies, aiming to shape standards, ethics, and innovation across Nigeria’s engineering landscape.
