The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle will soon be paid his outstanding salaries as preparations intensify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Reports revealed that the coach is owed three months’ salary and bonuses, but he has not filed any official complaint to the federation.
A senior NFF official explained that Chelle had previously been paid ahead of schedule and that the current delay stems from financial processes awaiting approval. According to the official, the coach has already been briefed and is aware that payment will be completed once funds are released.
Earlier in May, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, stated that Chelle’s salary was covered upfront until October through a presidential support scheme designed to stabilise Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualification efforts.
Chelle, who was appointed in January, led the Super Eagles to the African play-offs before they were eliminated by DR Congo on penalties. AFCON 2025 will be his third major assignment with Nigeria, and the team will compete in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
The Super Eagles camp opens on December 10 in Egypt, with a warm-up match against the Pharaohs scheduled for December 16. Nigeria begins its AFCON journey on December 23 against Tanzania in Fès as the team aims to secure a fourth continental title.
