The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested former Nigerian footballer Segun George Hunkarin and businessman Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, 37 wraps of cocaine weighing 800 grams were discovered in Chinedu’s hand luggage. Investigations revealed he had picked up the package in Addis Ababa while en route from Turkey.
Hunkarin, who was waiting to collect the consignment at the airport carpark, was also arrested. The ex-footballer, who played professionally in Brazil, admitted to previously trafficking drugs from Brazil to Ethiopia, but denied bringing any to Nigeria until now.
