The Military Pensions Board (MPB) and military veterans have agreed to improve transparency and clarify pension computations following complaints over recent consequential adjustments.
The agreement was reached on Tuesday in Abuja during an interactive session between the MPB Chairman, AVM Mikail Abdulraheem, and veterans.
Abdulraheem said the board administered pensions in accordance with applicable laws and salary structures issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
He explained that a revised salary structure for pension and gratuity calculations followed the salary review for serving military personnel, effective Sept. 1, 2026.
According to him, pension entitlements are calculated using a graduated formula based on years of service, with benefits reaching a maximum of 90 per cent of the applicable final emolument after 35 years.
He urged veterans to submit their pension records and calculations for review, adding that the commission had been invited to clarify the revised salary structure.
Earlier, veterans raised concerns over increases allegedly below announced percentages for some rank categories, differences in arrears paid to warrant officers and master warrant officers, and benefits for medically boarded personnel.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss the concerns, although the disputed calculations remained unresolved.
