Jesse Lingard ended his time in South Korea on a memorable note, scoring in his final match for FC Seoul before giving an emotional farewell to fans. The former Manchester United and England midfielder netted the opener in Seoul’s 1–1 draw against Melbourne City in the AFC Champions League on Wednesday night. Days earlier, he had confirmed that the fixture would mark his last appearance for the club.
Lingard, 32, made 60 appearances over two seasons for FC Seoul after joining in February last year. Following the final whistle, he broke down in tears as a tribute video flashed across the stadium screen, celebrating him as “our beloved captain” and thanking him for his leadership and dedication. The club promised that his “name and legacy will always be remembered.”
He applauded the home supporters, hugged team-mates and completed a lap of honour to mark the end of his spell in the K League. Reflecting on his journey, Lingard said he had enjoyed “a happy two years” in South Korea and credited the experience with helping him grow both on and off the pitch. He highlighted the responsibility of captaining the side and said he leaves the country “more mature.”
Lingard’s farewell moment came in the 31st minute when he calmly finished to give Seoul the lead, celebrating with a trademark Michael Jackson-inspired moonwalk. Melbourne City equalised in the second half, but the night belonged to Lingard as fans celebrated his impact and leadership throughout his time at the club.
