The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, has mourned six nursing students killed in a crash. The fatal accident occurred along the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road in Kwara State. University officials described the tragedy as a monumental loss.
According to the Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, the deaths shocked the academic community. Earlier reports revealed the students travelled from Suleja, Niger State. They boarded the same commercial bus before the crash. The victims were final-year students in the Open and Distance Learning programme.
They were heading to campus for their final examinations. However, the accident happened at Otte on Sunday. The university released an official statement on February 24. Management expressed deep sorrow over the devastating development.
Furthermore, leaders praised the students’ dedication and resilience. They said the victims embodied hope and academic excellence. Consequently, the institution extended condolences to grieving families. Officials also urged the public to pray for the departed souls. They assured families of solidarity during this painful period.
Meanwhile, the tragedy has intensified safety concerns on the highway. Notably, this marks the second fatal crash involving finalists in Kwara. Earlier this month, Kwara State University confirmed another student’s death. The victim, Idris Agboluaje, died in an auto crash. He was reportedly travelling to write examinations in Malete. Therefore, stakeholders continue to demand improved road safety measures. They urge authorities to address recurring highway accidents urgently.
