The Lagos State Government has announced the full details for the reintroduction of the Lagos environmental sanitation exercise, set to resume on April 25, 2026.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the exercise will take place every last Saturday of the month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with controlled movement across the state.
During the sanitation window, residents are expected to clean their homes, surroundings, and drainage systems. Enforcement teams from agencies such as LAWMA and KAI will conduct inspections to ensure compliance, with defaulters facing sanctions under existing environmental laws.
The government also announced that waste collection trucks will be deployed to remove bagged refuse, while incentives will be introduced to reward the cleanest areas.
While many residents have welcomed the move as a step toward reducing flooding and improving cleanliness, others have raised concerns about enforcement and potential abuse of movement restrictions.
