The Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) has launched two innovative health insurance packages. These plans target Nigerians abroad and visitors entering the state. The move expands the Ilera-Eko diaspora offerings significantly.
The unveiling occurred during LASHMA’s 2025 fourth-quarter Media Parley in Alausa. Stakeholders praised the initiative for improving access, boosting health financing, and supporting Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, LASHMA’s Permanent Secretary, explained that the plans—Ilera-Eko Waka-Well and Ilera-Eko Home Konnect—respond to growing diaspora demand. They also strengthen protection for residents under Lagos State’s mandatory health insurance framework.
LASHMA collaborated with Pinnacle Global Business Services, Nomad Doc Limited, and Mrs. Taiwo Salvador to market the packages locally and internationally. Rebranding the diaspora offerings into two plans enhances coverage for travellers, diasporans, and families living abroad.
Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, emphasized affordability. A family of six can access full coverage for just ₦180–₦220 per day. He noted the scheme improved maternal outcomes and brought healthcare closer to residents through a wide network of providers.
Mr. Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Diaspora, hailed the initiative as groundbreaking. The Waka-Well plan covers common travel illnesses, diagnostics, telemedicine, dental, and emergency care. It costs ₦45,000 for a 90-day stay.
The Home Konnect plan allows diasporans to pay premiums for families in Lagos. It includes consultations, surgeries, chronic care, maternal services, and wellness screening. Together, these packages aim to make healthcare accessible, affordable, and reliable for millions of Nigerians globally.
