The Lagos State Government has empowered 1,700 women with working tools under its Micro Enterprise Support Initiative, reaffirming its commitment to women’s empowerment and economic independence.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, made this known during the second phase of the Y2025 programme, organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at Blue Roof, Alausa, Ikeja.
Lagos State’s Commitment to Women Empowerment
According to the governor, the initiative reflects the state’s resolve to create an enabling environment where women can thrive, enjoy equal opportunities, and become self-reliant.
“One of my greatest passions as governor of this state is to empower our women,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “When you empower a woman, you empower a family, a community, and indeed the entire society.”
Tools Distributed to Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries received a wide range of items to boost their small-scale businesses, including:
- Sewing machines
- Hairdressing kits
- Stoning machines
- Aluminium fabricating machines
- Agricultural tools, fertiliser, and seeds
These resources aim to strengthen women’s participation in entrepreneurship, vocational trades, and agriculture.
A Future of Equal Opportunities
Sanwo-Olu assured that his administration will continue to strengthen laws, policies, and institutions that protect women’s rights, dignity, and safety, while ensuring equal opportunities in business and career growth.
