The Lagos State Government on Wednesday arraigned a 55-year-old National Union of Road Transport Workers chieftain, Shamsudeen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” before the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja over the alleged involuntary manslaughter of a dispatch rider, Ramon Imam.
Oladiti was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy, and attempted murder.
The prosecution counsel, Jubril Kareem, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences between August 27 and September 17, 2025, at Lewis Street, Lagos Island.
According to Kareem, Oladiti and other persons still at large conspired to commit a felony on September 17, 2025.
The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant caused the death of Imam by repeatedly beating him with fist blows and striking him several times on the head and face.
Kareem also informed the court that the defendant allegedly attempted to murder another victim, Samuel Omale, on August 27, 2025, by assaulting him and inflicting severe injuries.
The offences, according to the prosecution, contravened Sections 224, 411, and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, Oladiti pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Following his plea, defence counsel Olanrewaju Ajanaku informed the court that an application for bail dated April 27, 2026, had already been served on the prosecution.
In response, the prosecution confirmed receipt of the application and raised no objection but noted that the defence had requested an order directing correctional authorities to verify the defendant’s medical condition.
Justice Olawale Alebiosu subsequently granted the request and ordered the Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri to confirm Oladiti’s medical status at a Lagos State Government hospital.
The court adjourned the matter until June 15, 2026, for trial.
