The Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) has appointed Chief Dr. Ogwu Onoja as Patron and Ambassador of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT).
Onoja, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the Agenyi-Attah of Igala Kingdom, was presented with a plaque in recognition of his support for women’s golf in Nigeria and across Africa.
LGAN President Lami Ahmed announced the appointment in Abuja, stating that the championship will hold from Nov. 1 to Nov. 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, with more than 30 African countries expected to participate.
Ahmed said Onoja’s leadership and mentorship would strengthen partnerships and boost stakeholder confidence. She noted that Nigeria previously hosted the AACT in 1996 and 2010, expressing optimism that the 2026 edition would further highlight the country’s organisational capacity.
In his response, Onoja described sports as a unifying force that transcends ethnicity and politics, adding that women’s participation in continental competitions reflects excellence and national pride.
He pledged full support to ensure a successful championship, commending LGAN’s leadership for advancing women’s golf in Nigeria.
