The Kwara State Government has expressed concern following the discovery and closure of 724 illegal drug premises by inspectors of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria.
While commending the enforcement operation, officials described the scale of the illegal activities as alarming and warned that the widespread presence of unlicensed drug vendors poses a serious threat to public health and safety.
Authorities noted that many of the illegal outlets are operated by individuals without the professional qualifications required to handle and dispense medicines. Health experts warn that the circulation of drugs through unregulated channels can result in treatment failures, medication errors, antimicrobial resistance and avoidable deaths.
The government has pledged to strengthen collaboration with regulatory agencies to improve monitoring, enforcement and public awareness in order to protect residents from the dangers associated with illegal drug sales.
