AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has pledged N20 million to each of the families of three soldiers killed in a recent terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
The governor also announced N5 million support for each of the six injured officers during a visit to the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital in Ilorin, where the survivors are receiving treatment.
AbdulRazaq commended the bravery of the soldiers, noting that they successfully repelled the attackers and prevented potential kidnappings in the community.
“At about 3 a.m., we lost three gallant soldiers as they courageously beat back a terrorist attack,” he said, describing their sacrifice as invaluable.
The attack, which occurred in Kemanji community, reportedly began with the detonation of an explosive device, followed by heavy gunfire. Residents said the assault had been preceded by threats, heightening tension in the area.
Security operatives, supported by local vigilantes, engaged the attackers in a gun battle that lasted for hours, with casualties reported on both sides. However, the attackers reportedly fled with some military equipment.
The governor expressed condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers and reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting security forces and protecting lives and property.
