The Kwara State Government has approved the payment of a 30 per cent Peculiar Allowance for workers in media houses, government agencies, and parastatals, expanding earlier welfare benefits that were limited to mainstream civil servants. This new development signals a broader commitment to equity within the state’s public service structure.
According to an official statement released in Ilorin through the Office of the Head of Service, the decision follows renewed efforts by the administration to strengthen inclusiveness and fairness across all categories of workers. Consequently, previously excluded employees will now benefit from the allowance under the revised welfare policy.
The Acting Head of Service, Olufunke Shittu, confirmed the approval, noting that it reflects the government’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare. She emphasized that the inclusion of agencies, parastatals, and media institutions was necessary to correct earlier disparities and promote uniformity in public service benefits.
Furthermore, she explained that the implementation of the 30 per cent Peculiar Allowance will commence on June 1, 2026. All affected institutions, she added, are expected to comply strictly with the directive to ensure smooth execution.
In addition, Shittu commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his consistent reforms aimed at enhancing workers’ living standards and boosting morale across the state workforce. She also encouraged employees to remain committed to efficient service delivery as improved welfare comes with greater responsibility.
Meanwhile, she disclosed that May salaries were paid ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration to help workers prepare adequately for the festive period. The government further extended goodwill messages, wishing workers and Muslim faithful a peaceful Sallah celebration while reaffirming its commitment to sustained peace, productivity, and prosperity in Kwara State.
