The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks. This decision targets terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements in the state. The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, announced the directive on Sunday.
It affects parts of the Kogi West Senatorial District and neighboring communities. The move aims to disrupt criminal networks by limiting their movement and logistics. Security agencies will restrict access to food, consumables, and other support used by criminals.
Fanwo explained the operations are coordinated with the National Security Adviser’s office. Additionally, heads of security agencies in Kogi State are collaborating closely. The temporary shutdown covers seven local government areas across the state.
In Lokoja LGA, Oshokoshoko Market and Motor Park, Jakura, Ogbagbon, and Agbaja are affected. Other areas include Atsawa, Obajana, Apata, Abugi, Amomi, Ebee, and Budon. Kabba-Bunu LGA closures include Ike Bunu, Aba Marian, Ofere, Aiyede, and Okebukun.
Yagba West LGA markets like Okoloke, Isanlu Esa, Okunran, and Ejiba are also closed. In Yagba East LGA, Irunda Ile, Iyeh Ilotin, Gada, and Ilafin markets are affected. Lokoja and Mopamuro LGAs see closures in Rice Market Adingere, Koton Karfe, and Edeha. Ijumu LGA closures include Ayegunle Gbedde, Iyah Gbedde, Ayetoro, Iluhagba, and Okoro.
The government emphasized that all closures are temporary.Normal market and motor park activities will resume after the security exercise. Authorities urge residents to cooperate and follow official guidelines during this operation.
